Love-Leigh Thoughts and Ideas

I know this is really late to post goals for 2011 but better late than never right?

1.) To keep changing our home to fit our style.  A few things I would LOVE to do this year if the funds are available

 – Paint the livingroom ( We already have FREE paint for this it’s just doing it)

– Put in a fence in our backyard (We have a nice collection of Home Depot gift cards so I hope once the weather breaks we can get this done)

figure out what kind of space we would actually use in the backroom. ( I think maybe a game room ) Done !!!!!

finish the hallway ( The ceiling needs painted and its done … )

– triple the size of my garden from last year.

– figure out a normal house cleaning schedule . ( I clean the house all the time and I would like to be able to make a set cleaning time )

– Learn how to can ( I think I am well on my way. I have 2 books on it right now. )

2.) Continue on with our budget .

plan meals BEFORE  I grocery show ! ( This sounds simple enough but I have to say I am very guilty of not having a set menu and spending WAY TOO MUCH $$$ at the store .)

– Continue to work towards building our savings .

continue to pay off  some student loan debt. ( It’s really sad the day you figure out all the things you could be doing if you didn’t have a million dollars in student debt for a degree you don’t even use )

buy a second car !!!!! ( Now that I have my driver’s license I would LOVE to have the freedom of having my own car. )

3.) Career goals  (Sorry ladies I can’t really talk about this one on here . )

4.) Family

– Be more connected with my family ( This one I’m going to be honest is hard for me. I love my family with all my heart. But I am not the best at calling / stopping by to see how people are. I can go a month or 2 without talking to people and not even realize  I did it ….)

– Hopefully add-on to our family – ( With that being said : I want to be married at least a year before we have any children. So we can enjoy being married and have saved up some money toward a child. So maybe we can add a little puppy to our lives in the meantime (  LITTLE APOLLO DURFEE CAME INTO OUR LIVES 3/14/11  )

A friend of mine and I went out today and took some shots at the local metro Parks. Here are a few of my favorites.

Wow I’m sorry I didn’t realize that I had been away so long !  I just wanted to pop in and show you our new bench !

We got it from Ryan’s Mom and it needed some t.l.c.  I am in love with how it turned out !

I have never minded doing laundry. It has always been one of those things that I kind of enjoy doing ( I don’t know why ).  I would often do Ryan’s laundry when I went to visit him at his Mom’s house – just to help out . The only thing I don’t care for with laundry is putting it away. I would wash and fold all day long as long as someone else put it away.

So now that I have you thinking about laundry ……. It brings me to this point : Do you know what is in your laundry detergent? Go right now and pick up your bottle of detergent . What are all of those big words? what chemicals are in there? And why on earth are you paying that much for it?  This is the point I got to about 2 weeks ago. It’s no secret that we are trying to cut back on expenses . I listed some of the top products we shell out serious money for and laundry detergent was number 1 !  In an effort to better to our wallet, bodies , and the environment I started to look into homemade options.

This is a tried and true recipe we are currently using and I LOVE IT !

2-cups finely grated soap anything Like Ivory, Dr. Bonner . Just stay away from heavily perfumed soap.

1- cup washing soda

1-cup Borax

Mix well and store in an air tight container. Put 2 tablespoons full in with your laundry. Easy peasy !

It only took about 30 minutes to make this  and it should last awhile. And how much did it cost you may ask? Here is a breakdown of how much it cost: Borax $2.79 , Washing soda:$2.99 , soap $1.99   total cost : $7.77  the nice thing is the next time I want to make more the only thing I will have to buy is a bar of soap. The rest of the ingredients should last me at least 2 more times of making detergent !

Last week I armed myself with 2 cans of spray paint , 2-mirrors, and a picture frame . Well it took me a week to get pictures but tonight I made it my mission!  I’ll give you the rundown of what it cost !  And I hope you will be as shocked as I am !

BEFORE :  White Mirror $3.00 from the thrift store , Picture frame FREE ! from my Mom ! , Big mirror – FREE ! It was in the house when we bought it ! Black spray paint $2 , Green Spray paint $3 ……. Total $ spent : $8.00 ! Not bad 🙂

AFTER :

Here are some more goodies !  Shelves : FREE ! From Ryan’s Mom ! Plate: FREE ! It’s a family heirloom from Ryan’s Mom’s side of the family  , and gee look at that robins egg blue creamer ! FREE! from my vintage swap !  It didn’t take me long to find a spot for it , Photo canvas  was only $5.00 ! I only had to pay for shipping !

So Grand total : $13.00 Not to shabby !

I am so happy to be apart of the vintage swaphttp://vintageswaps.blogspot.com/  ! I love to get mail and it’s always fun to be on the hunt for things to send to your swap partner .  This time I was paired up with Lise from :  http://inthepurplehouse.blogspot.com/    She sent me some very wonderful things !  A flat sheet and look at all of those buttons !

A table-cloth . I love the colors in it . It reminds me of spring !

Lace trims and Bias tape. And look at that floral trim ! I can’t wait to put that to good use 🙂

And look at this robins egg blue creamer . It needs its very own shelf in my kitchen. Maybe this will be used as the inspiration for when we re-do our kitchen  . I love this color .

Thank you so much Lise ! I love everything !

My poor little sister had asked me for a scarf last November. I was hoping to get it done in time for Christmas and it never happened . Then I thought  I would try to get it done for her Birthday in April . And April came and went. So here we are almost a year later and its still on my knitting needles ….  This week I vow to finish it ! This Christmas she will have a nice new scarf to wear 🙂
