What no more cable tv?

Posted on: September 20, 2010

Ryan and I are were looking over our finances last week and decided that at this point in our life we need to save more money. And try to pay off as much student loan debt as possible.  After looking over our phone bill and cable bill I decided that we would make the “grown-up” decision and cut costs way back.  Buy cutting out tv we saved $130.00 a month ! Then I took a look at our cell phone bill. Just by cutting out the “data” package we will save $50.00 a month !

Now here’s the kicker I have never been without cable tv in my life.  I was sad to see it go . But this weekend was so productive I wish I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago ! Here is what we got done: Friday – Cleaned the house , baked cookies, made fresh bread, made a pumpkin pie, made and apple pie,  made applesauce , cooked dinner. Did 5 loads of laundry. Made a Fall table runner for our dining room table.  Went on my very first grocery trip by myself. This is a very bid deal considering I am almost 25 years old and have only had my drivers licence for a little over a month .  Saturday – Started to clean out stuff I want to have a big Fall clean out and donate anything we no longer want or need.  Talked to my  Dad , did the dishes, got some sewing done, went to the post office , dropped off our cable box at ups so they can send it back to our cable company. Cooked dinner we had ribs – I don’t eat them but my husband LOVES them.  My mom, step dad and my brother came over. I proudly showed off my pumpkin pie I had never made one before .  Sunday Cleaned out the basement ! Did laundry, cleaned out all of our Christmas decorations . I’m donating a box and bag full of Christmas stuff we don’t use  ! Did the dishes, watched Project Runway online 🙂 , Cooked dinner with Ryan . Had my MIL , Ryan’s Grandma and his little brother over for dinner, Had a nice Chat after dinner, And got a FREE box of fabric 🙂 , Watched The Omen with Ryan last night . All and all  I think I can get used to this no  tv thing 🙂 I love being able to say how much I got done this weekend 🙂

I am happy for you – I know it’s a big adjustment, but I think going cable free can be great for yourself and your marriage! And if you ever need a movie or tv season hook-up, you know who to call. 😉

I’m totally exhausted just reading what all you got done, but very impressed! I may have to at some time consider going cable-free… it hurts just to say it! Gotta make other changes too. I’m encouraged by all that you’re doing…
