Love-Leigh Thoughts and Ideas

Archive for September 2010

I can totally tell Fall is here !  This past week I have been looking around the house more and planning projects for it. This happens every year around this time.  In the last week we have ripped up carpet, had a home cooked meal every night but one,  I baked a pumpkin pie, re-done some picture frames , last night we rearranged the living room ,and yesterday I started to knit a new pair of slipper socks ( a total sign I’m ready to be in doors for the next few months .)   I have yet to get outside with my camera this Fall , I took these pictures last year and I thought they were appropriate for today’s post  .

I am really excited about this and I’ll need you to hold me to it ! I LOVE HALLOWEEN ! So this year to celebrate our first Halloween in our home I thought I would do the 31 days of Halloween on my blog! Each day I will show a Halloween decoration, craft, or recipe to count down to Halloween ! I have been kicking this idea around for about a week . And I finally decided to go for it ! So Starting this Friday  I will (hopefully) post something Halloween related everyday in October !

I had it all planned out what I was going to post yesterday and today . But I have decided to change that . We got our professional wedding pictures back on Sunday and I want to post a few of my favorites !

I’m on the hunt for new recipes again. Now that the weather is turning colder I’m in the mood for comfort food . Today I decided I was going to make beef stew. But I didn’t have a recipe so I wing-ed it .

Beef Stew:

3-red skin potatoes – Quartered

2-Small onion chopped

3- Carrots peeled and chopped

2-Cloves of garlic chopped

2-Cans of Beef Stock

1- Pack of beef stew meat – It was frozen when I put it in.

Then various seasonings  I used: Parsley, fresh black pepper , Rosemary, Thyme, season salt , and bay leaves .

I tossed it all into my crock pot and put it on high for 6 hours .  It was so easy. I plan on having it tomorrow for dinner.

I think “free” is my new favorite word ! Its funny but as I get older I love shopping for deals , and receiving things for little or no cost to me .  My Mom was nice enough to let me look through her Halloween decorations last night and pick out anything I wanted. I didn’t have time this morning to take pictures of everything , but I’ll give you a sneak peek 🙂

We found these old apple crates in the Garage attic . My Mom has lived in her house for close to 30  years and she said they had to be there before she bought the house ! I like they way they are but I have also thought about painting them. What  do you think? Paint or no paint?

Yesterday went something like this : My husband had the day off work. He played computer games , visited an old friend , did the dishes, helped cook dinner . We watched a movie . It was a nice day and evening. Then 9pm BAM !  I hit him with this one ……. “Ryan will you help me rip up the carpet in the hallway when your done ?”  And since he is so wonderful he said “yes” ! We didn’t get that far but I’m so in love with how its going to look when it’s all done !

To help you understand a little more … There is nothing wrong with our carpet . Its  a nice greenish light blue color. But I have always been in love with hardwood floors. As a matter of fact it is the only question I asked when we looked at the house . “Does it have hardwood flooring?” We went to the closest floor vent and peeled up the carpet and behold we had beautiful hardwood floors !

My poor little sister had asked me for a scarf last November. I was hoping to get it done in time for Christmas and it never happened . Then I thought  I would try to get it done for her Birthday in April . And April came and went. So here we are almost a year later and its still on my knitting needles ….  This week I vow to finish it ! This Christmas she will have a nice new scarf to wear 🙂
